Jennifer L. Jonak

 

Jennifer L. Jonak is the founder and principal of Jonak Law Group, P.C.  She has been practicing since 1997.  She graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law and obtained her undergraduate degree with high honors from the University of Virginia. She specializes in general counsel work and commercial and complex civil litigation, including intellectual property/technology matters, business law and complex torts. She previously worked at Morgan Lewis (then McCutchen Doyle). While at Morgan Lewis, Ms. Jonak was on the firm's Pro Bono Committee and received an award on behalf of the firm from the State of California.  She has spent thousands of hours doing pro work for underprivileged clients, including on prisoner's rights work and a class action involving accommodations for persons with physical and developmental disabilities.

 

Ms. Jonak has represented individuals in fraud, securities and other business litigation against large banks, accounting firms, insurance companies and other companies.  She has also acted as outside general counsel for various companies, handling license agreements, tech transfers, strategic alliance agreements, IP purchases, supply agreements, R&D agreements, NDAs, angel investments, and employment matters.  She has also overseen litigation in multiple jurisdictions, including cross-border and international work.  She has extensive commercial litigation experience, having first and second chaired trials in state and federal courts.

 

Ms. Jonak is admitted to practice in California and Oregon, and has argued successfully before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the California Court of Appeals.  She is admitted to the International Trade Commission, the United States Supreme Court, the United States Tax Court, the District of Oregon, the Northern District of California, the Eastern District of California, the Central District of California, the Eastern District of Michigan and the Eastern District of Texas.  Prior to practicing law, she researched and wrote treatise supplements on Franchise Law and Corporate Acquisitions & Mergers for Mathew Bender, and directed and co-authored a report published by the North American Securities Administrators’ Association Congressional Task Force on Earnings Claims in Franchising. She also co-authored and contributed to articles for the National Law Journal and law reviews.

 

When not practicing law, Ms. Jonak has contributed her time as a photographer to various wildlife and humanitarian projects. This includes projects to increase awareness and fund-raising for endangered species preservation on behalf of the World Wildlife Fund, as well as AIDS and famine relief projects in Africa.  She volunteers her time for a number of non-profits, and has served as President of the Friends of Eugene Public Library, Secretary and Director of the Eugene Public Library Foundation, director of the University of Oregon’s Oregon Bach Festival, and Chair of the Private Events Committee for the Eugene Symphony’s 50th Anniversary.  She is a member of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee of the Lane County Bar Association, chair of the Lane County Bar Association's Library Committee, on the Board of Directors for Square One Villages, and a member of the Lane County Steering Committee for the Campaign for Equal Justice.  When not working, she enjoys gardening on 80 acres in the Willamette Valley of Oregon with her three young children.
